Some years ago I sold my family-name domain, a dot-com domain I acquired for free as part of my first internet service with a provider in San Diego. These were the very early days of the web.
Well, I held onto it, paying the yearly fee for about five or six years; but never used the domain to set up a web site.
I got tired of paying the renewal fees (which were higher than they are these days, by the way).
Just then a company in the printing business contacted me: their printing business had the same family name as mine and they were putting together a web presence and wondered if I'd sell my domain to them. I asked how much they were offering and they said "oh, we could go as high as a couple of thousand." Well, I needed cash and I said I'd think about it.
At this point I should have contacted a domain name broker or something, but I didn't. When they called back I said okay, give me three grand and they couriered a check out to me in a day or two, with documents to sign.
Now I found out that this domain name, as a dot-com version, is worth about two hundred grand !!! Crazy me! I could have held out and eventually bought a HOUSE with the cash I'd get now for it !!!
"Live and learn" is what my dad always says.

All I know is I got into the internet gaming business to late, I wish I would of gone into it 5-7 years ago. I know I prolly wouldn't be working at this horrible job I hate. Lots of people who got into the game early are prolly sitting on a sunny beach right now drinking Margaritas. Definitely those who sold some of those domains for millions, absolutely amazing. I still have profited pretty good from becoming a webmaster, I just wish I was smarter. There's lots of people who don't even have to work during this time of crisis, which is pretty cool. Wish I was one of those people!
