The Best Places to Get Quality Backlinks

by Yan Susanto

Previously on thoushallblog.com, I revealed a little secret of link building with an article, What They Don’t Teach You About Link Building which has become one of the most popular articles on this blog. The most popular article is A-Z Blogging Guide for Beginners, just in case you have missed it.

To recap, what they don’t teach you about link building is that with little effort and consistency, you can easily work your way into the Top Commentator list by commenting on other blogs in similar niche.

Once you are in the top commentator list, you will gain sitewide backlink and get to enjoy the PR juice from the blog. All you need to do is to be active and engage in the discussion by not spamming leaving quality commentary that adds value to the conversation.

Top Commentator = Google PageRank + Technorati Rank

Google Pagerank

With the impending Google PR update soon, the more backlinks you get from high PR blogs, in theory the more PR you will get on the next update.  It’s the simplest and most effective link building strategy any beginners should undertake in pursuit of better search engine ranking.

Just in case, you aren’t in the know, here’s how Google calculates PageRank to give you a pretty good idea of how many backlinks you need to get your PR.

In much the same way that Google ranks search engine results by link popularity, Technorati keeps track of who’s linked to who and assign Technorati Authority accordingly.

As you build more links by being in the Top Commentator list, you will gain more authority and see an increased in your Technorati Rank.

List of Blogs with Top Commentator Plugin

So here I’m attempting to compile a list of blogs with various PageRank (presumably correct at the time of this writing) to help you jump start your link building campaign and get that coveted PR status, speaking of which I haven’t got it myself yet as this blog of yours has only been in existence for less than 3 months.

[Updated: March 2009]

[Updated: July 2009] Apologize for the inconvenience. The plugin that displays the list isn’t working anymore.

The above list is taken straight from my bookmark and has been updated with the recent Q2 PR update and it will continue to grow as I’ll be updating it with more blogs of PR 1 and above.

To The Blogmaster

Ultimate Blogging Theme

If for some reason your blog is not listed here, please state your intention for inclusion on the comment below and I’ll put into the list on the next update. However, I reserve the rights to reject any blogs deemed inappropriate.

Till we meet again and happy commenting.

I need to figure these back links out, sounds good though

Lee June 9, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Yan, I’ve been following this list for quite a time, but I found that some of the stat is not correct especially the PR. Between, this list is not an auto-update list?

Anyway, it’s an awesome list! I do get lot of backlinks from about 10blogs here. :D

Lee

Having the top commentator links on your pages is a good way of promoting your blog, its will increase comments on your site, but I’m not sure it it will effect the page ‘page rank’.

This a great technique, the most effective way of commenting is by adding comments on Dofollow blogs, using signature in dofollow forums and commenting on blog with top commentator wordpress plugin. Though what is more important is that you don’t spam around the web but contribute wisely to the conversion or less your comment will be deleted which is a great time lost.

Thanks for the post!

akhlis September 6, 2009 at 3:06 pm

Can hardly believe I found a site like this! :) so many useful resources scattered here…I’m a novice, amateur blogger who just started blogging since last month (so you know how green I am in this blogging realm). I like the way you write, too. The site’s layout is so simply irresistible (I’m not flattering ^_^). I envy your web design as it’s hard for me to find a neat, clean cut free template like this :( (which is nearly impossible to get)
and your “A-Z Blogging Guide for Beginners” is just like bible for me! I did bookmark this site and naturally, I’m going to visit this lovely site again and again ^+^
Thanks a lot, pal!
P.S: I read your “about” page, and was stunned to find out your rich multicultural and multinational background
I’m an Indonesian blogger, regardless of the ups and downs of Malaysia-Indonesia bilateral tie, hope we can be friends..
Cheers,too ^_^V

Yan September 6, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Selamat datang, Akhlis

Thanks for your compliment! You know what? There are lots of clean template available online – free or otherwise but for me, this Thesis theme has been the best I’ve ever used.

PS: I’ve never meddled with politics so whatever happens between the 2 countries I’m still an Indonesian at heart… ;)

akhlis September 6, 2009 at 3:54 pm

Wow,thanks for the super immediate reply, mas Yan (sounds weird?).
Yeah, I shun politics, pretty much. Neutral is what i’m trying to be..haha.. Being a nationalist doesn’t have to condemn each other, does it? Ok, leave the dispute for the diplomats :)
Back to our template discussion, so your template is called “thesis”? Hmm. sounds serious, but I like the brown background, really..
Ok, mr. Susanto..thanks for the info, I’ll try to grab those templates now! ^-^

Yan September 6, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Oh, I forget to mention. Thesis theme is not free. If you have the budget, the link is at the footer.

I don’t blog often nowadays but when I do you’ll be the first to know. If there is anything I can help, don’t hesitate to contact me.

Ciao.

PS: Just call me Yan. Kamu dari mana?

akhlis September 6, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Hello again :)
My template searching is still on..
I tried to click your WPDesignStudio link (at the lowest part of your page) but I could only find this “Hostname lookup for “wpthemestudio.com” failed” :(
any idea what’s going on? thanks a bunch

Yan September 6, 2009 at 4:06 pm

LOL, there is a link that says “Thesis WordPress Theme“… I’m sure you can find it….;)

akhlis September 6, 2009 at 4:18 pm

Yan? Looks like you’re older than me (I’m 26 this Oct), so is it OK to address you that way? As I’m unemployed these days, I guess I don’t have to answer whether I’ve got the budget or not :)

High PR –> MONEY ;)

Andrew Weismen October 5, 2009 at 1:46 am

Hey thanks for the very nice sharing of info..

I am wondering, how often is Google made their PR update?? I am waiting for their update, I just don’t know when. Keep up posting interesting entries like this one.

Kudos!!

Carrie Bevill October 9, 2009 at 3:37 pm

Google hasn’t been regular with its Page Rank Updates nowadays. They used to update PR’s after a month or two.

You have a really good site here! Good luck on you PR next month… Or… wehehehe

Ned Carey October 5, 2009 at 10:49 am

Geez, this post is over a year old, the list isn’t even in the post any more and you are still getting a ton of comments on this post. Wow I’m impressed. Take care Yan,

Ned

Hey Ned

Good to see ya stopping by. Yeah, the plugin I use isn’t working anymore and I kinda lost all the list.

How are you, Ned?

SEO Learner October 7, 2009 at 10:51 pm

Can anyone tell me the best places to submit an article that generates quality backlinks except ezine and artice base?
I have recently written an article on Dubai furnished apartments and the article after like one month the article got rejected by ezine on a very trivial issue so i want to submit that to some other decent site. Thankyou

Yan October 7, 2009 at 10:58 pm

There are a couple of directories that have enough Trust Rank in Google’s eyes, namely

HubPages
Squidoo
Infobarrel
Buzzle

As long as you’re submitting unique contents, these 4 are worth more than 100 crappy links.

Good luck!

SEO Learner October 7, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Thankyou Yan for your prompt reply. I have bookmarked your page for future help.

getqualitybacklinks October 11, 2009 at 5:47 pm

nice article.. and good information … thanks for help

Article Video Robot October 12, 2009 at 1:11 am

Yan, don’t you find that hubpages is a little different since you have to have a certain score for the links to count as a dofollow link? I think you need to have a score of over 70 for it to be dofollow correct? Also they seem to be pretty sensitive when it comes to putting links in your articles. If you put more than two it seems, they flag you. Thats a little irritating. But hubpages gets indexed quickly and does well in all 3 major search engines

Dofollow Blog October 15, 2009 at 9:02 am

Absolutly agree. Giving a best commenting is a good way to build a link to our blog. Anyone can see who we are from what we said. Nice post

Steve D'Agostino October 20, 2009 at 6:25 am

Thanks for trying on the TC list, even if the plugin isn’t working anymore. For those who care, though, I have the widget installed. My PR is still somewhat low, but I’ve read that that doesn’t particularly matter. If you want some backlinks, stop by and start a conversation!

Lou November 10, 2009 at 1:59 am

It’s ironic that you discuss backlinks, and even have yourself listed as a ‘dofollow’ blog in various dofollow engines, when in fact your comments are nofollow.

bud bear November 13, 2009 at 2:26 am

Yan

Over 400 comments say how good this post is. I just started building traffic on some new sites and am trying use this strategy. However what about sites with good similar content but no PR. Certainly they have to have some value? I not refering to directories but sites that add value to your readers. What do you think?
