Probably one of the nicest Firefox Plugin I have just discovered and got my attention is Hyperwords. It is a nifty Firefox plugin you’d not want to miss. It does much more than the conventional Firefox tool we’ve come to know. Hyperwords makes any website interactive and enhances users browsing experience to next level.
From Hyperlinks to Hyperwords
Hyperwords gives you a selection of choices in a pop-up contextual menu whenever you select or highlight any plain text or a block of text without the use of right-click. It fetches all the information on-the-fly right from your browser.
Here’s some of its interesting and cool features:
1. Search for Google
2. Search image or video from Flickr and YouTube
3. Search for People from Facebook, MySpace and Friendster
4. Look up for reference in Wikipedia, Dictionary.com and Thesaurus
5. One-click emailing
6. Copy the text to your blog as a draft – it works with both WordPress and Blogger
7. And many more – see the video demo
If you don’t like the way Hyperwords pop-up its menu every time you select some text, I know it can be quiet annoying at times, just change its setting from the contextual menu. I have set it to work only when I select the text and hit ‘Enter’. No more annoying pop-up.
What I love most
The best part of Hyperwords IMO is its translation feature. You select any block of text and HyperWords will do inline translation on-the-fly meaning the actual text on the webpage will be replaced translated in the language of your choice. Almost instantly and painlessly. Oh I love it. Here’s the preview screenshot,

Translated from English to Chinese using Hyperwords
Now if you are using Firefox and have never heard of Hyperwords, it’s time to download it now and experience a new level of interactive web browsing. You’ll love it for sure.

Just tried this, and fallen in love already – the feature; “highlight a word(phrase) , go search,” is big for me.
Thanks for this great tip Yan!.
Personally this is one of the best Firefox plugin I have used. Glad you fall in love with it. So did I.
I had used it earlier, but got it off, as it clutters my contextual menu.
Anyways, nice read.

@Silki: Well, it won’t clutter your menu if you set it to display only upon certain action, say when hit F2 key.
Can’t wait to download it! I am going there straight away! Thanks for sharing the info!
@Ranjani: You’re welcome. If you find it useful, blog about it.
Great post- sounds like a great plugin! Unfortunately, I don’t have FF3 yet, as some of my plugins haven’t been made compatible yet. Do you know if there is a version for FF2? I looked but it seems there is only one for FF3. Thanks for sharing this tool!

Hey Erica
I’m currently running FF Ver. 2.0.0.15 and Hyperwords seems to be very much compatible with it. So I’m not too sure if you have installed it yet but it works fine for me.
Anyway, glad you dropping in and thanks for the lovely comment. I hope you will join us more often here at thoushallblog.com.
C’ ya…
I did not try downloading it, I assumed it wouldn’t work with FF2! Thanks for the info- I’ll download it and I’m sure it’ll work! Thanks again!
