2009 is the Year of Internet Marketing

by Yan Susanto

It’s amazing how time flies. It’s already 2009 now. What started as a casual journal of my blogging journey has blossomed into a melting pot for beginners and experts alike to discuss, share and learn all there is to blogging.

Over the course of 8 months, I’ve written a total of 131 posts with a whopping 4,424 comments with a subscriber count of 500+ and still counting.

Still a Blog for Beginners?

It has always been my primary motivation that this blog will one day be a one-stop place for beginners to learn the basic of blogging. If my memory serves me well, never I wrote any topic that is beyond the grasp of newbies unless it’s necessary.

I believe this could probably be my “unique selling point” that allows me to co-exist with other bloggers in the same niche.

Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still – Chinese Proverb

With that said, however, there comes a point in time where it occurs to me that I do not want to be just a blogger who helps beginners to blog.

2009 is the Year of Internet Marketing

All new beginnings require that you unlock a new door – Rabbi Nachman

I resolve to be an internet marketer. I resolve to put what I’ve learned into practice and unlock a new door.

2009 will be the year of internet marketing for me.

I also realize that internet marketing success is very much measured by how much I could turn traffic into dollars and cents.

So my main focus will be to put into action what I’ve learned in 2008 and turning them into dollars and cents in 2009.

As a matter of facts, over the last 2 months or so, I’ve been working on other internet marketing projects to build a decent passive income in 2009; perfecting the knowledge that I’ve gained thus far and exploring other possibilities beyond just blogging.

And I have a solid game plan in hand..

So What’s My Game Plan for TSB in 2009?

I’ve been toying with the idea of taking this blog to the next level and in fact, I’ve put a lot of thought on what should be the next best option for TSB.

Should I write about advance tips or should I keep the focus on blogging tips for beginners?

There are hundreds, if not thousand, of people who are still unaware of the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. I receive email almost daily on what seems to be trivial questions such as how to FTP, can I install plugin on wordpress.com, just to name a few.

After much consideration, I’ve finally decided to keep it as a blog for beginners that focuses on blogging tips for newbies.

I figure there is still a gap to fill in this niche for beginners that caters to the newbies. Sure there are ton of resources available on the net but TSB has built a reputation as a blog for beginners,

and I need your help to keep that reputation…

Be An Associate Writer for TSB

And since I’ll be devoting my time on other projects in 2009, I’m now inviting any talented blogger to come on board and be a regular contributor to TSB.

“What’s in it for me?” you may ask. Well, that’s a fair question.

Here’s the deal. I’ve successfully created the community around the blog where you can use as a perfect platform to promote your blog and improve your credibility and authority as a blogger.

All I need is someone who is passionate enough to keep the reputation of TSB as a blog for beginners.

I’ll take care of the promotional aspect of it and of course, I’ll still write for TSB, albeit not as often as before. If you are game for it, drop me an email and we’ll talk.

Besides, I’m in the process of working out the possibility of sharing adsense earnings with the associate writers. The deal is that any earnings from clicks originated for the post written by the writer will be shared on equal basis or possibly more.

This could well be a wishful new year resolution on my part so any advise is well appreciated.

Oh, I wish you all have a successful and prosperous year in 2009.

I mean 8 months work and you have a place that’s well known by most of the blogging community (atleast the one im a part of).
I want to say good luck in the future, and I hope the whole marketing thing works well for you.

As for finding writers, you could do what problogger does and get alot of guest writers :P

I enjoyed your post. How we can tell 2009 is the year of internet marketing year. I wish to know how the financial problems affected internet marketing.

Yan January 2, 2009 at 11:44 pm

It really depends on how you look at it. No doubt spending power will shrink in times of economic downturn but more and more people will turn to internet to make make a decent living and that’s an opportunity in disguise if you ask me. In fact, the current economic crisis shouldn’t be seen in negative light.

An associate writer is someone who is committed to the future development of this blog as if it’s his or her blog while guest writers come and go.

Does that answer your question?

Yan

Dennis Edell January 5, 2009 at 4:59 am

Commitment can be in any kind of way, shape and form. Writing a post each week does count as one.

I’d give it all if I have the opportunity to write for Problogger.net but that’s one of the toughest barrier of entry.

I’m now knocking on someone else’s door but I’m sure not too long, the opposite will become a reality. We have 4 associate writers coming on board now and a landing page is going to be up pretty soon.

Maybe a little press conference. Who knows?

In a way, it’s all related; oh wait, that’s what I said I was going to do.

Either way, your internet buddies will support you, and any successes you have we’ll be ready to steal them so we can be successful also.

Mike Collins January 5, 2009 at 8:50 pm

Yup it’s 2009, my blog age is 4 months with PR 3 and still making small amount of money, yet I have to work hard to get more traffic and improvement on PR, perhaps somebody in this forums can give me inputs on how to improve traffic, but don’t give me advice using social bookmarking I have done that and only works temporarily and slope down again after having thousands visitors per day, what I need is steady traffic to build and last long enough….please advice…beside blog comments on blog that have high PR starting from PR 3, what else is it out there? is making blog dummy a good way to do it?

Hey Ari

Traffic does not necessarily equate to sales unless you’re able to convert them into customers. That’s the delicate skill most marketers wouldn’t teach. Trust me. If I knew it, I’d the first to teach as I don’t hold back.

But one thing is certain, when you have a certain degree of authority, you could even ask a monkey to pay peanuts for your product. Hope that answer your question.

And with the kind of niche you are in, the best viable route to take to build that ‘authority’ is to use article marketing, bearing in mind that it takes time and patience to build upon it.

Commenting on unrelated niche is fine for link building if it’s dofollow but there is a fine line between generic traffic and targeted visitors. Ask yourself which one is more important to you……

@Yan thanks for replying, I think in this line I need strong links outside my niche, with the assumption will attract the unique visitors, and or I will do blog comments on same niche if otherwise?
