Thanks for the link back, it is appreciated.

Now I guess to visit and read all websites/posts you mentioned and pretend I’m working while I’m really just reading posts? :)

Nicely done Yan, as usual and thanks for putting together this list.

Also, thanks for the link love, I feel honored that you would link to my site. PC world’s bottom 10 most useless sites… yeah, I pretty much agree. Haha. I agree with Wei, a neat way to bring 08 to an end. Cheers, all the best! Happy Christmas.

Thanks for linking me on #89 Join Twitter and use it creatively. ;)

I have one to add to the list. Use StumbleUpon regulary, make a many friends, be and occasionally share your posts with them. This is a platform that works great if you are genuine and interact with other users become and social. Don’t over promote or try to game SU or they will kick you off.

Gerald Weber SEM Group´s lastest post..10 Examples of Creative Twitter Uses

Yan December 23, 2008 at 9:48 am

Well, they don’t call you SU-addict for nothing or is it Twitter-addict?…. ;)

The only benefit SU has done for my blog is to improve my alexa ranking once in a while. In fact, I ran into some hosting issues on a couple of occasions due to spike of traffic from SU. My shared hosting couldn’t handle it but thanks to WP-Cache who saved my day later.

Does it get my vote? The jury is still out…

Gerald Weber SEM Group December 23, 2008 at 11:18 am

Another note about SU and Twitter yan it’s something that like most other things does take time and you have to develop and interact with other users regularly. One thing great I have noticed about being active on different social platforms is you will begin to have the same friends across multiple platforms and this can result in something I like to call “social media synergy.” It’s basically means you’ll have the same or similar circle on multiple platforms. However being active on these platforms is key. I haven’t seen you much on SU or Twitter lately so I wouldn’t expect you to see too much in the way of results from these 2 platforms until you become somewhat active there.

Again great list Yan. ;)

Yan, thanks… Will check them out for sure.

I need to change the theme before upgrading to 2.7  to save my comments section

Yan December 24, 2008 at 1:08 am

Yeah, just make sure that the theme is compatible with WP 2.7 threaded comments. Otherwise, fixing it can be quite a task for some.

It took me a good two-hour work to put Brian’s Threaded Comments properly in place here. Once you mess it up, there is no turning back so it’s highly advisable to back up before you do anything.

Good luck, buddy.

2008 was a pretty nice year for me. I made more money this year than any year I have in the past, greed is not a good thing. But, I’m just thankful I have a job and have learned the ropes of the internet to make a little more money. I just hope the economy can get back on it’s feet so other people can benefit just as I did.

Yan December 23, 2008 at 10:20 am

Well, I wish you more success in your journey next year. All the best, Erik. There is an abundance of opportunities – as well as scams – waiting to be discovered on the web. Good luck, pal.

Forsaken@Domain Marvelous December 23, 2008 at 6:16 am

I very much agree with comment 30…”Being #1 on Google doesn’t necessarily brings in the traffic”. Commenting and creating network amongst other blogs is what is needed to kick start your traffic building venture. Utilizing other search engines, including niche specific SE’s, may account for majority of your traffic than being just listed on the second page of Google search.

Furthermore, “Duplicate content may be a myth”, but a very strong myth. Every other member of a web masters forums still believes that you would be penalized for having duplicate contents.

Lastly, you comment Digg is useless may not be true in all cases. It all depends on how strong you network on these social bookmarking sites. Yes, though in the long run, organic and referral traffic is more useful than short lived social traffic, which may only increase your blogs bounce rate.

A rocking post to end the year mate. :)

You aren’t allowed to install plugin on wordpress.com as it’s a secure environment. If you are in for the long haul, I suggest that you move it from free hosting to self-hosted platform. You are pretty much handicapped without plugins so to speak.

What a list, Yan; no wonder it took you 5 days to write this post. Lots of links out also, as well as internal links; great SEO at the same time. I’m someone who never joined Digg, as I kept reading where they were killing people’s accounts for a lot of stupid stuff without telling them why. Same with Stumble Upon, which is why I didn’t join that one either.

Good stuff for everyone to check out here.

Hey Mitch

In actuality, I wrote this in one sitting. Nice guess anyway… ;) and oh, thanks for the compliment. I have tons of great resources to share on my bookmark but I’ve maxed out the no. of outbound links I guess.

It seems like we’re in the same opinion as far as Digg and SU are concerned. The only social traffic that converts most is Twitter, though I’m guilty of not being an active user. Anyway, thanks for dropping by, Mitch.

Happy holidays to you and yours.

Mitch December 26, 2008 at 12:52 pm

I have been more active on Twitter, but every post from my blogs gets onto Twitter, and I do get some visits that way, so life isn’t all that bad.

Don’t worry, Hussein. There isn’t anything wrong with mascot. Keep it that way. I’m guessing a real photo on your ‘about’ page is sufficient enough. I’m sure you could pick one that will shine.

Great list!

My tip would be — Make your blog interactive. One way to do this would be to have regular (weekly or montly) feature posts on the same day, so that readers will know that they have something to look forward to, and come back to participate. The posts that would encourage them to participate could be any of these and more: a weekly photo challenge, a day per week in which you answer the readers’ questions, any kind of meme, a weekly caption contest, a monthly writing assignment, a weekly day where you ask readers’ their opinon on something.

Wow, what a list indeed. I’ve been able to learn a lot of what you’ve listed but still got a ways to go. adsense is great for organic traffic i can agree with you on that.

Your blog is amazing, very informative and can teach a lot of new or pro bloggers.

Glad you find them useful, Jackie and thanks for your kind words. Fast blog finder is indeed one tool you wouldn’t want to miss if you want to take your commenting to the next level. It’s more targeted and not just shooting in the dark.

I have a question, you know alot of these tips are from other sites, so do you like bookmark these as you read them through out the year?

Yan December 28, 2008 at 2:36 am

Hey Ardit

Yes, I do read more than I write, albeit more selectively. Whenever I find any useful article, I’ll bookmark it and use it as a reference or in this case, I link out to it as an additional resource to my readers. You can say I make pretty good use of Google reader and bookmarks.

Yan December 28, 2008 at 11:57 pm

Hey Paul

Which CSS plugin created a mess on your blog? I believe tip #10 shouldn’t be taken too lightly, shouldn’t it? Some plugins are badly written and not compatible with your version of WP.

My advise is to choose one that has been accepted into the official directory and take the rest with a pinch of salt.

Yan

Paull Hamilton December 29, 2008 at 12:58 am

Hi Yan,

The plugin I chose was the one you have in your list for optimizing your blog, CSS Compress for Wordpress. After I installed it, I refreshed my blog and everything was pushed over to the right hand side of the page.

I must admit my heart skipped a beat, but I uninstalled it and now everything is ok again =O)

Thankyou very much for your interest,

Best wishes,

Paull

People should do one at least thing every day in their life.

Hmmm, I should have stretched it to 365 blogging tips. What do you think?

Prasanna December 28, 2008 at 1:55 am

Hi yan, Great tips. Most of your tips will be useful for every blogger. For me, the greatest lesson from 2008 is to ‘ maintain a constant posting frequency’. I struggled through out the year to update my blog on a frequent basis because, of my busy schedule. I hope to rectify this problem in the coming year.

Prasanna´s lastest post..Increase your site traffic with simple SEO tricks

Yan December 28, 2008 at 2:41 am

Prasanna

Don’t be too concerned with posting frequency. There is only one fundamental thing you need to keep in mind, that is to ask yourself, “What’s in it for my readers?” In other words, your readers come first, posting frequency is irrelevant.

You seem to have a healthy community with lots of comments on your blog. Keep it up and keep blogging.

Oh, welcome to the community.

Great list Yan. I don’t know what I’m more impressed with, that fantastic list or the fact the comments exceeded the Blogging Tips.

If you don’t mind I would like to use some of those in my next project HotBlogTips.com It’s not ready yet but I’m working on content before I launch the site. I’ll give you full credit of course with the same links on your list.

Hi ,
That’s an excellent list. Like everyone else, probably, I have done a few of those things well, many not so well, and many not at all. I’m interested to see your mention of Squidoo. Do you think it only helps if you have a high ranking (within Squidoo) lens? I made 2 lenses and am hoping they’ll have a good effect.
Will try knol now –
Happy New Year!
